Engaging Peers in Research

Suicide Prevention Ottawa’s (SPO), Research and Knowledge Exchange (RAKE) group can help you hear directly from people with living and lived experiences.

Our group has engaged a varied group of peers who can be consulted at any point in the research process.

The people with living and lived experiences that are affiliated with SPO attend an orientation to support their involvement in research.

To help with this preparing, researchers are asked to submit a lay summary of their research study to support peers to make decisions and plans regarding their involvement.

SPO also offers ongoing support throughout the research process in the form of crisis counselling, and coaching about process.

While it is not mandatory, SPO recognizes that providing honorariums to peers is  a best practice, and encourages all researchers to incorporate this in their planning.
